PACE Program – Centro de Engenharia Automotiva da POLI-USP

PACE Program

The PACE Program – Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education of the global General Motors is directed towards engineering education and congregates students from important universities in different countries (Brazil is the only one in South America)

The AEC recognizes the importance of this program for forming future generations of engineers for the automotive sector. Since 2005, Poli-USP has participated in PACE – being the first Brazilian school selected and the only Brazilian one until 2012.

The universities selected by PACE are granted “software” and assembled laboratories by GM and its partners, with workstations similar to the ones used by automotive sector organizations.

Poli-USP has four laboratories equipped by the Program, with over 100 workstations and “software” for Computer Aided Design (CAD), Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), applied to conceive, to design and to manufacture vehicles.

Every year, PACE promotes the Global Vehicle Development Project, a competition among universities participating in the Program. The teams are formed by students from different countries who have as a mission the development of a global vehicle. The university students present their final design to the competition board of referees at the PACE Forum.

In 2009, Professor Marcelo Alves, from the AEC, took on the world coordination of the Global Vehicle Development Project and has kept the post so far.
